Aftercare

Use these tips as a guide on how to care for your new tattoo

Clean it

The most important things is to keep it free from bacteria and dirt. Remove the film wrap after 2 hours, or if using second skin, as instructed by the artist. Wash the tattoo gently and thoroughly with your hand using antibacterial soap. Pat dry with a clean paper towel and leave uncovered for 24 hours.  You should clean your tattoo this way everyday, maybe more if you have a job that involves working outdoors or in less than hygienic conditions.

Moisturise it

Moisture is key, but there is a balance. After 24 hours the tattoo should have built up a barrier, at this point you can start to moisturise. Whenever you feel the tattoo getting tight or flakey, pop a light layer of fragrance free moisturiser on it, like Aveeno. It's important to note that too much moisture can cause infection so do allow the tattoo to dry between applications. Most people typically moisturise 3-4 times a day. Avoid any antiseptic ointments as these can pull ink out of the skin. Avoid smothering ointments like Vaseline or Sudocrem; these will cause infection.

Protect it

After 1-2 weeks your tattoo should have healed a shiny new skin over the top of it, and by 6 weeks your tattoo should be healed completely.

Nothing will damage a fresh tattoo more than the sun so please make sure to use strong SPF on your artwork so as to avoid fading or damage.

Enjoy your new tattoo!
